U2 is preparing to launch its own radio this Wednesday, July 1st. U2 X-Radio will be another channel of the powerful network of American satellite stations SiriusXM.
The U2 radio will go on the air with a program that includes vast material from the band, such as rare tracks, concert records and programs presented by the members of the band.
Speaking to the American magazine Rolling Stone about the channel that the band will have from now on SiriusXM, guitarist The Edge said that U2 and its production team took advantage of the pandemic period to focus on this release. a good example is Close to the Edge, a program that the guitarist will present and which will feature distinguished guests, some of them already revealed, Tom Morello, Noel Gallagher and David Byrne.
Regarding the news, he admitted that the 30th anniversary of the album Achtung Baby, would not need to be celebrated precisely on its anniversary date (it was released on November 18, 1991), leaving in the air that the band could promote a celebration at any time. “I would enjoy doing something like Zoo TV [album promotion tour] … we had no idea at that time what the world was going to turn into,” he commented.
A possible new U2 record also gained space in the conversation with the magazine. “I’m always working on new songs. I haven’t stopped since we finished our last tour. The question is whether we have a plan to finalize or launch the work. Not for now. But we are creating a lot of new and interesting songs ”, he revealed.
