“Dave Mustaine is a great guitar player, incredible,” says Kerry King

In interview with British magazine Metal Hammer, Slayer guitarist Kerry King recalled the first time he saw Metallica perform live. According to King, the group still had Dave Mustaine in its formation, and it was amazing to see him play alongside James Hetfield & Cia.

“Even back then, Metallica was great. They were ahead of us by at least 16 months to a year. The guys were already doing their own songs and we were still doing covers”, said Kerry. Mustaine was still in the group. I do not remember. But I know that Dave and I watched them perform at a club and were amazed by Mustaine”, he pointed out.

“To this day, Dave is a great guitar player, amazing,” emphasized King. “I was delighted to see Mustaine play insane guitar lines and James blasting away on rhythm guitar and singing all those lyrics,” he added.
